In an exclusive interview with Womendigest.in, on World Wealth Day, Manisha Nutritionist, Dietician and Fitness Expert talks about her journey, Excerpts…
Tell us about yourself? And from how many years you are in this field?
My name is Manisha Chopra, I am a 42-year-old, born and brought up in Delhi. I am a mother of two lovely kids – my elder girl is 19 and the younger one is 13. My biggest support system is my husband who always pushed me to pursue my dreams and be a better version of myself each day. He is as passionate as I am which is truly a blessing. I am in this field from past 22 years.
Brief us about your venture? And it is from which part of the country?
During the birth of my first child, I gained 32 kgs and started to feel uncomfortable. I hated the way I looked and wanted a change. I joined a join a gym and started to work out regularly under the guidance of gym instructors but I was not satisfied with the results and was not able to see a positive change. So, I took it upon myself to find a fitness solution so that I can get positive results. I went out on a quest to search for the perfect fitness regime which suits me and my body and yields positive results and helps me in having a positive outlook towards life. My venture is based in Gurugram, Haryana, India.
When was the eureka moment when you decided to have your startup?
When I started training myself, people saw a lot of changes in me. My friends and people around me requested me to train them also and from that day I never looked back. I started training my friends and after watching the results on me and my friends’ body, I started getting a number of clients. During that time too, I felt that what you eat is the most important thing when you work out and that’s how the journey of me, as a nutritionist, started off. I studied very hard, did intense research and finally got myself certified as a nutritionist.
What is your biggest strength and weakness?
My biggest strength has always been my family, my kids and my willpower to achieve what I have achieved today. I have received strength from the motivation given to me by my parents, my husband and now kids. My weakness, in this field, was to leave the kids back home and learning and taking up courses and spending hours in practice. I have not worked for money instead I have worked hard just to pursue my dreams, my love for fitness and gaining vast knowledge on nutrition. I was inclined towards how a human body performs, what is the anatomy of a body, the science behind exercises, the science behind gaining and losing weight, etc. when I gained 33 kgs after my first delivery. My life evolved only around my body and how to get back into shape without harming myself.
As a woman entrepreneur, there are many challenges. Tell us what are the primary challenges which you have to face as a women entrepreneur?
As a woman entrepreneur, I have faced many challenges due to the male dominance in the country and in this field people still don’t understand why a women cannot pursue her dreams, why she cannot live the way she wants to and why she cannot do what she wants to.
In this fitness industry, people still look down the job of a fitness trainer. But by god’s grace, I have never faced that. However, I could see the same in many people’s mind and I have chosen not to get affected by them anymore.
How do you deal with stress and challenges, especially during this pandemic?
This pandemic taught me that there is nothing more than mental strength, mental stamina and mental health. This pandemic taught me how I can introduce fitness into my health. It taught me how one can evolve from meaningless society pressures and how one can heal yourself by activating their health and fitness.
Being a woman, you must be handling lot of things- tell us how you maintain a work-life balance
I start my day very early in the morning. I try to finish all my tasks in the morning itself and never put it on the next day so that I can take out time for my family and for my kids. I also look after my home and never miss out my daily practises. In the evening, I take out time for my clients. I take classes and make dietary plans for the clients.
What keeps you motivated and any message you want to give our female readers who are still confused to start their own venture or not.
When my clients come to me and say that they are feeling nice about their bodies and that they are really happy with the results, it motivates me very much. Also, my kids help me stay motivated throughout the day. They never complain and always cheer me up. I really want all the females to stand on their feet, have self-confidence and start up with their dreams of achieving big.
